About Us

Our Mission Statement:

Trinity Church of the Nazarene exists to

glorify God,

proclaim the Gospel,

build relationships,

and impact our community for Christ.

We are a Protestant Christian church in the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition,

and we are a member of the Church of the Nazarene's New England District.

The mission of the Church of the Nazarene is to make Christlike disciples in the nations.

We are evangelical in doctrine and evangelistic in practice.

We believe the Bible to be the inspired Word of God,

the Foundation of Christian faith,

and the Guide to devout, God-fearing living.

We believe in revivals, preaching repentance,

and urging men and women to forsake sin and

seek God for forgiveness and cleansing.

We approach our Heavenly Father with reverence and expectancy

and address our prayers in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Meet Pastor George

A graduate of Nazarene Bible College, Pastor George Hemway left his business career to respond to God’s call to full-time ministry. Prior to doing so, he was also a firefighter for many years. Originally from rural Upstate New York, Pastor George now calls North Haverhill his home as he begins his 25th year as pastor of Trinity. Additionally, he serves as the Chaplain of nearby Grafton County Nursing Home. He and his wife, Connie, have two grown children and four grandchildren. In addition to serving the Lord and spending time with his family, he also enjoys sports, biking, reading, and crossword puzzles.

Our History

The Trinity Church of the Nazarene was originally birthed in the early 1960's through a burden the Lord had placed upon the hearts of Ron and Janet Collins, formerly of Newbury, Vermont. Having a specific burden for the children of the local area, they started a Sunday School. Initially, they met in homes in West Newbury. However, as attendance grew, they subsequently met at the West Newbury Town House. John Nielson, who was attending Eastern Nazarene College, traveled up on Sundays to preach. The Newbury Church of the Nazarene was thusly organized on July 20, 1964. The need for a centrally located building was realized. Marilyn and Bob Henck, formerly of Woodsville, New Hampshire, were instrumental in acquiring the Kaiser Restaurant on Smith Street, Woodsville, New Hampshire. The land and building, which had been damaged by fire, were purchased on December 11, 1968, for $6,500. Necessary renovations were made; this became the Woodsville Church of the Nazarene. The mortgage to the church was paid off on December 22, 1978, ten years after purchase. The property of Earl Craig on Elm Street was purchased for a parsonage on November 25, 1970, for $9,375. The upstairs apartment was rented to help pay the mortgage. The first years were very lean, but with dedicated pastors the congregation outgrew the church building. On September 8, 1978, two acres of land on Horse Meadow Road, North Haverhill, New Hampshire, were given by Ralph and Herbert Reed for the site of a new church and parsonage. The ground was dedicated on Sunday, September 23, 1978, and construction was started. The church was dedicated by General Superintendent Dr. William Greathouse on January 21, 1979, and the name was changed to "Trinity Church of the Nazarene". The property on Elm Street was sold on October 10, 1980, and a new parsonage was built adjacent to the church in 1980.
